Scapegrace Blood Moon Gin Review

When citrus calls, you answer.....

Opening Pour — The “Whim Bottle” That Paid Off

Every now and then, a bottle jumps off the shelf and basically dares you to take it home.
That’s what happened with Scapegrace Blood Moon Gin.

There it was — glowing like a ruby under store lights — and before I could talk myself out of it, the bottle was in my hand. I’m a sucker for citrus-forward gin, and anything promising blood orange, raspberry, and makrut lime is basically whispering my name.

But let’s be honest… whim bottles can be dangerous.
Sometimes they end up being “guest contributions” to someone else’s liquor cabinet.
Sometimes they surprise you.

This one?
Somewhere in the middle — but leaning toward pleasant surprise.

The first pour hit the glass with a vibrant hue that practically shouted, “I came here to be noticed.” And the moment it opened up, that unmistakable wave of blood orange rolled in, bright and aromatic, backed by botanicals that reminded me why I keep taking chances on bottles like this.

Citrus lovers, buckle up — this review’s for you.

Flavor Run — What Scapegrace Blood Moon Gin Really Tastes Like

Scapegrace Blood Moon Gin is unapologetically citrus-driven. It doesn’t flirt with orange; it cannonballs into the pool.

Flavor Fingerprint™ Breakdown

Blood Orange (front and center):
Fresh, bright, and juicy — the star of the show.

Raspberry:
Adds a touch of red-fruit sweetness beneath the citrus.

Makrut lime:
Sharp, zesty, and slightly floral — a big part of its complexity.

Juniper:
Not pushing too hard, but still grounding the gin.

Coriander & cardamom:
Subtle spice lifting the citrus notes.

Mint & pepper:
A cooling, warming counterbalance that keeps the finish alive.

Finish:

Long, citrusy, and slightly warm — like a Negroni that catches the last five seconds of sunset.

It’s citrus-forward, complex, and carries enough backbone to avoid becoming a “fruit gin.” You taste the craft in its layers.

How It Drinks

Neat:
Surprisingly sippable, even for a citrus gin. Loads of orange and warm spice.

On ice:
Brightens and sweetens; the raspberry peeks through more.

In cocktails:
This is where it shines — especially in anything that benefits from bold citrus.

Top options:

  • Blood Orange Negroni
  • Citrus-forward G&T
  • Gin Sour
  • Spritz variations
  • Highballs with aromatic tonic

Pair it with:

  • Fever Tree Mediterranean
  • Fever Tree Aromatic
  • A splash of fresh grapefruit
  • Pink peppercorn garnish
  • Makrut lime leaf if you want to get fancy

The Connection — Why This Bottle Found a Place in the Tasting Room

Some spirits impress you immediately.
Others grow on you.

  • It balances sweetness, spice, and botanicals well
  • It’s versatile for cocktails and creative G&Ts

This gin feels like summer in a glass — or the first warm day after a long winter. It’s refreshing, expressive, and extremely mixable.

Not every gin needs to be classic London Dry austerity.
Sometimes you want a pour that makes your taste buds throw confetti.
